Honest limits on what a bookshop can promise. Nothing here shrinks your rights under the Refund and Returns Policy or under your own state's consumer law.

Read the book as the author wrote it

We stock books. We do not write, edit or endorse them. Every opinion, claim, instruction and recipe inside a title belongs to its author and publisher. That matters most on the practical shelves: a recipe knows nothing about your allergies, a self-improvement title is not therapy, a workbook supplements teaching rather than replacing it. Check ingredients yourself, consult the relevant professional where one is warranted, and treat what is printed as the author's position rather than ours.

Expect the edition on the page, and tell us if it differs

Listings carry format, publisher, page count, publication date and ISBN for the copy we stock. Publishers reissue titles, and one printing can differ from another in small ways — paper stock, a corrected typo, an added foreword — without changing the ISBN. A copy that departs from its listing in any way that matters is our mistake, corrected at our expense under the returns policy.

Allow for a cover that prints differently on your screen

Jacket images come from publishers, shown as supplied. Monitors disagree with each other, and a deep green in one room reads grey-green in another. Foil, embossing, sprayed edges and matte laminate all photograph better than they arrive. A shade of difference is normal. A different design is not, and the returns policy covers it.

Treat a delivery date as an estimate

Five to ten business days reflects what distributors and USPS actually manage, not a guarantee we can enforce on either. Storms, postal backlogs and December volume stretch it. What is guaranteed is the handling: you hear from us when something has gone wrong, and the Shipping Policy sets out the right to wait or cancel for a full refund.

Give children's books and craft kits a grown-up check

Board books, workbooks, sticker books and the coloring kit with markers are made for children. They reach us from established publishers and suppliers who state that their products meet the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act requirements applying to children's items. We run no laboratory testing of our own and hold no Children's Product Certificate, so the words "certified" and "tested" will not appear anywhere on this site attached to a product. What we ask is the ordinary care a parent already applies: look a new book over before handing it across, keep board books away from a child still chewing everything, sit with the markers and the small pieces, and set aside anything that arrives split, torn into small parts or damaged in transit. Anything about a children's item that worries you: photograph it and email us. It comes back, and it goes to the publisher. The wider picture for those shelves lives on the Product Safety page.

Follow the age range printed by the publisher

Ages 2 to 3, ages 3 to 5, ages 6 to 8 — those ranges are the publisher's grading, reproduced exactly as set. We never widen one to sell more copies. Ranges speak to reading level and to safety, particularly on anything containing small parts, so read them as a floor rather than a suggestion.

Know the limit of what we owe you

Our responsibility for any order stops at what you paid for it, shipping included. Indirect losses fall outside that: a birthday missed, a copy bought elsewhere while waiting, hours spent chasing a parcel. So do carrier delays and events beyond our control, once the Shipping Policy obligations have been met. Liability that the law forbids limiting stays unlimited, and nothing written here removes a right granted by the consumer law of your state.

Watch this page for changes, and write to a person

When a line here stops being true we rewrite it and move the date at the top. The version on screen is always current. Should any paragraph above read like an attempt to duck a responsibility, tell us — that was not the intention, and the sentence gets rewritten.
